Lorene M. Jameson, 85 of Scammon, died at 6:10 pm Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Freeman Health Systems Hospital in Joplin following a short illness.
She was born January 5, 1924 in rural Pittsburg the daughter of Claude and Nina (Spillman) McDaniel. She attended area schools and graduated from the Cherokee High School; she later attended and graduated from Pittsburg State University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
On January 25, 1943 she was united in marriage to George J. Jameson in Columbus, KS; he preceded her in death on May 6, 1988.
Lorene worked as a pre-school teacher for the SEK-CAP Head Start in Scammon for over 28 years.
Church membership was held at the First Baptist Church of Cherokee.
Survivors include nine children: George Junior Jameson, Jr. of Mulvane, KS, Danny Dean Jameson of Roseland, KS, James “Blackey” Jameson of Cherokee, Beverly Coleen Joyce of Pittsburg, Michael Gene Jameson of Stippville, Tony Kent Jameson of Lexington, OH, Debbie Ann Wydick of Weir, Lisa G. Sullivan of Riverton and Tina Lorene Wydick of Roseland; two sisters Darlene Copenhaver of Pittsburg and Pauline Marshal of El Paso, TX, 31 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, an infant granddaughter and a grandson.
Funeral services will be 10 am Friday July 10, 2009 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Rev. Jason Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery.
