Ronald “Ron” M. Butler, 70, of Pittsburg, KS, died at 6:05 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born October 19, 1941, at Independence, MO, to John H. and Betty M. (Smith) Butler.

Mr. Butler attended Kansas City area schools and graduated from Raytown High School.

He served in the United States Navy and Marines from August of 1959 to September of 1962 during Vietnam as a Hospital Corpsmen.

On June 8, 1963, he married Margaret Horn at Kansas City, MO.

Mr. Butler was certified in Respiratory Therapy and worked at Menorah Medical Center in Kansas City until moving to Pittsburg in 1970. He worked at Mt. Carmel Medical Center for 18 years. His job then took him to Wichita for three years and Webb City, MO., for 15 years, before returning to Pittsburg in June of 2010.

Membership was held in the Trinity Baptist Church. He was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge and the Mirza Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Butler of  the home; two daughters ,Ronda Lung and husband, Randy, Mesa, AZ, Susan Touchton and husband, David, Pittsburg, KS; a sister, Linda Mezzacasa, Blue Springs, MO; seven granddaughters, Kyleigh Haggard, Jorden Wilson, Bailey Wilson, Erin Lung, Shelby Lung, Haley Touchton and Hope Touchton; a grandson, Eli Touchton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Barbara Wilson, and a son, John Butler.

A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday (June 23) at the Brenner Mortuary with Pastor Michael Hart officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Mr. Butler has been cremated and burial will take place at a later date in the Highland Park Cemetery. The Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64 of Pittsburg will conduct the flag folding ceremony. The family suggests memorials to the Ronald McDonald House and/or Hospice Compassus. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th Street, Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
