Herbert L. Moerer, Emporia, Kansas, died at his home on Friday, June 29, 2012 at the age of 56.

Herbert L. Moerer was born in Iola, Kansas on September 23, 1955, the son of Robert E. (Sr.) and Patricia Ann (Marion) Moerer. Herb was raised on the family farm near Yates Center, Kansas by his grandparents, Ronald and Helen Moerer. He married, but was divorced.

Surviving family members include his two daughters, Megan Moerer, Stotts City, Missouri, and Abby Moerer, Pittsburg, Kansas. Sister, Bobbi Sauder and her husband, Steve, Emporia, Kansas, five brothers, Gene Moerer, and his wife, Sue, Yates Center, Kansas, Richard Moerer, and his wife, Jackie, Enid, Oklahoma, Ed Moerer, Yates Center, Kansas, Ron Moerer, Kansas City, Missouri, and Allen Moerer, and his wife, Ildi, in Tennessee. Grandchildren, Hunter  Moerer, Pittsburg, Kansas, and Natalie Moerer, Stotts City, Missouri. Also, best friends Richard and Diana Deeds, Emporia, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by parents, and  grandparents, Ronald and Helen Moerer, and Elbert and Mildred Marion.

Herb was a graduate of Yates Center (Kansas) High School and the automotive mechanics program of Flint Hills Technical College, Emporia, Kansas. While attending Flint Hills Technical College he began working for Peach’s Auto Service (Emporia). After graduation in 1974 he worked there full time. Later he worked at Larry Estes Auto Body, Dick Handy Chevrolet (both Emporia), then he moved to Pensacola, Florida to work as a service representative for Chevrolet with the Birmingham, Alabama Center, later moving to Dothan, Alabama. He was one of the first Chevrolet Service Representatives to move to Detroit, Michigan to help set up the online facility for Chevrolet, then transferred to the Sales Division of Chevrolet.  He returned to Emporia for three years as Service Manager of Rich Longbine Chevrolet, then worked as Service Manager at Spearfish, South Dakota, Gillette, Wyoming,  and Crown Chevrolet in Lawrence, Kansas.  He was an independent dealer of Snap-On Tools in Pittsburg, Kansas. To allow himself more time to raise his daughters, he sold the business and worked for King’s Auto in Pittsburg.  Herb always thought of Emporia as home, and returned to work at John North Ford, Emporia Motors, and  finally in August at Cliff’s Super Service, where his final day of work was June 7, 2012.

He enjoyed travel, and won numerous Incentive Program Awards which allowed him to do so.

The family will receive friends at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Kansas on Thursday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Graveside services will be held at the Yates Center (Kansas) Cemetery Friday morning at 10:30. The service will be conducted by his uncle, Rev. Kenneth Kirk, Olathe, Kansas.

Memorials have been established with S.O.S. Inc, and the Wound Care Clinic at Newman Regional Health, both in Emporia. Contribution may be sent to the funeral home, P O Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
