William J. "Bill" Green 74, of Columbus, KS passed away November 21, 2009 at St. John's Regional Medical Center.
Bill was born June 2, 1935 in Crestline, KS , the son of Oliver L. and Jane (Hoy) Green. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1954 and married Joan S. Lane August 22, 1954. Bill attended New Tribes Missionary School in Durant, Miss. He worked for B.F. Goodrich in Miami, Yellow Transit in Baxter Springs and retired from Modine Manufacturing in Joplin where he worked as a security guard. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 45 years. He was very active in the church, reading his Bible and teaching salvation to those he met. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother who enjoyed hunting, fishing, writing poetry and painting. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael L. Green and is survived by his wife Joan of the home. One son: Scott Green of Joplin, MO. One daughter-in-law: Debbie Chambers of Marietta, GA. Two grandchildren: Alexandria Chambers and Christina Hough. One sister: Marlene Murdock of Joplin, MO. One brother: Jim Green of Columbus. Extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in the Murdock Chapel with Pastors' Warren Stanton and Jim Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. on Monday evening. Memorials may be made to The First Baptist Church with the funeral home serving as custodian. Condolences may be left at murdockfuneralhomes.com.
