FORT SCOTT —

Edward Lee Whiteside, 82, of Fort Scott, died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Medicalodge of Fort Scott.  He was born August 3, 1925, in Fort Scott, the son of William Isaac and Mabel Lena (Bolinger) Whiteside.  He married Nolene Stump September 7, 1947 in Larned, Kansas.  She survives of the home.
He and his family owned and operated Whiteside’s IGA from 1921 until 1993. Edward began his employment with the family store in 1946. 
In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by his children; Edward Lee Whiteside, Jr., Sheryl Bloomfield and her husband Tim, and Marilyn Bailey and her husband Ron, a brother; William I. Whiteside, four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.  He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, three brothers, and an infant daughter; Nancy Ann Whiteside.
Rev. Paul Babcock will conduct services 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, with burial following at the Evergreen Cemetery.  Visitation is Monday, May 12, 2008 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church and left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall Street, P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, Kansas, 66701.
