Jaulaine Dent, 90, of Chanute, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, Kansas.
Jaulaine was born in Stillwell, Oklahoma on June 26, 1922, the daughter of John Lee and Myrtie (Brunk) Mintz. She was delivered by an Indian Midwife named Walking Stick. She graduated from Chanute High School.
She was united in marriage to Ralph Dent on May 14, 1944 in Independence, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Jaulaine worked for several years as a Beautician at the Modern Beauty Shop.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, was an avid pie-maker with her specialty being coconut cream, volunteered at the hospital snack bar, and St. Pat's Thrift Store.
Jaulaine is survived by a son, Michael Dent and wife Margaret of Chanute; two daughters, Marsha Jerome of Wichita and Janie Scott and husband Jim of Pittsburg; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joy Cheyney of Chanute.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph; a son-in-law, Richard D. Jerome; two sisters, Bernice Lumley and Jessie Faye Tice; and two brothers, Darrell Mintz and Lacy Mintz.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery, on West 21st Street in Chanute.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute.
Memorials in her name may be made to Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with the funeral home.
