Melvin C. Vineyard, 87, loving husband, father and grandfather, of Pittsburg, KS went home to be with the Lord on September 13, 2012 at Medicalodge South in Pittsburg where he had been under care for the past several years.
Melvin was born in Waldo, KS (Russell County) on March 13, 1925 the son of Charles and Marie (Gillenwater) Vineyard. After graduating from Weir High School, Melvin joined the Navy.
On July 18, 1950 he married Hazel Bowman at the Weir Baptist Church. She preceded him in death on January 2, 2012.
Melvin worked as a farmer most of his life. He also worked for the City of Pittsburg at the cab and bus station, as well as Standard Gas Station.
Survivors include daughters Gloria (Gene) Baldwin; Melody (David) Howerton; son Wayne (Sherry) Vineyard; seven grandchildren 2 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother Jay Vineyard and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Joyce Coles.
After cremation the family will conclude with graveside services at 1 p.m. Monday September 17, 2012 at the Bird Cemetery south of Pittsburg with Reverend James Shope officiating. Friends and family are requested to meet at the cemetery for the services.
