James Porter, 68, of Girard, died at 1:35 a.m., Sunday, December 2, 2012 in the Via Christi Health Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.
He was born September 28, 1944 in Pittsburg, a son of Armond and Corinne May (Charley) Porter. He grew up and attended schools near Liberal, Missouri and graduated from Liberal High School.
He married Jimmie Roseoleta Harris on June 13, 1964 at Arcadia, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 6, 2005.
He worked as a fabricator at McNally’s in Pittsburg.
He enjoyed his family, riding motorcycles, and playing the guitar.
Survivors include his daughters LeAnna Wyland of Pittsburg, Carol Murphy of Ingram, Texas, Brenda Antle of Pittsburg and Catherine Porter of Republic, Missouri; six grandchildren including David Wyland and Mary McDonald who provided for his care; one great-granddaughter; his brothers Lee Porter of Liberal and Chuck Porter of Franklin, Kansas; his sisters Colleen Kauble of Lincoln, Missouri and Penny Smith of Liberal.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Rev. Bob Dickey officiating. Burial will be in Sheffield Cemetery near Arcadia.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m., Thursday until service time. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
