Leonard W. La Forte, 87, of Raytown, MO went to be with the Lord on Wednesday November 18, 2009.
Leonard was born August 18, 1922 in Frontenac, KS to Julius A. and Rose (Neet) La Forte. He graduated from Frontenac High School in 1940. After high school Leonard went to work for the ammunition plant in Parsons, KS. In 1943 he entered the US Navy and served proudly until 1946. After his military career, Leonard married Bernice Neely in 1946 and went to work for Armco Steel, working in the wire mill for 36 years until his retirement. In 1992 he married Magdalena Matarazzi. Leonard was a member of the DAV, the American Legion, the VFW, and was a charter member of the One Spirit United Methodist Church in KC, MO. Leonard was an avid fisher, hunter, and enjoyed watching various sporting events on TV. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bernice; 13 siblings.
Survivors include his wife, Magdalena of the home; his sons, Jerold E. (Diane) and Leonard J (Jimmy); his daughter, Janet L. (Bert) Thompson; 2 step sons, Mark (Linda) Matarazzi and William (Barbara) Matarazzi; a step daughter, Vicki (Dennis) Harbor; a sister, Wynonna Kopmeyer and husband Norman Hicks; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and 4 step grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 AM Saturday November 21, 2009 at Floral Hills Funeral Home with the Family receiving friends from 9-10 AM Saturday. Burial will be at Floral Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to One Spirit United Methodist Church.
