Lena Margaret Hansen Blanchard, 79, of Pittsburg, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Cornerstone Village in Pittsburg.
She was born July 20, 1928 at Chanute, Kansas to Charles William and Opal Marie Phillips Hansen. She attended a 1 room school house in rural Chanute and graduated from Chanute High School in 1945.
On January 13, 1945, she married Charles C. Blanchard at Iola, KS. They moved to Pittsburg from Chanute in 1993. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2004.
She was a homemaker, worked for Tyson’s Café and Air O Duct plant. She then worked as a nurse for over 25 years at the Neosho Memorial Hospital in Chanute. After retiring, she worked for Jody’s Attic and the Village Shop.
Membership was held in the Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon and also belonged to the Ruth Circle. She loved to knit, crochet and did many projects of counted cross and Hardanger pieces for her home and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Eugene Blanchard, and his wife, Stella of Cherryvale, KS and Patrick Lee Blanchard and his wife, Sheila, of Shasta Lake, CA; her daughter, Peggy Elaine Howard and husband, Scott, of Pittsburg; two grandsons and 5 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday (July 20) at the Cornerstone Village Chapel with Rev. K.O. Noonoo and Sister Ann Meyer co-officiating. Graveside memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday (July 21) at the Elmwood Cemetery in Chanute, KS. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Cornerstone Village Chapel. The family suggests memorials to the Harry Hynes Hospice or Cornerstone Village or the Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg. Friends may also sign the register book and leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
