Robert L. “Pup” Hensley, 70, of Pittsburg, KS died Tuesday May 13, 2008 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center following a long illness.
Pup was born March 9, 1938 in Pittsburg, KS the son of Charles Henry and Bertha May (MacArthur) Hensley. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended area schools in Pittsburg.
In 1960 he married Margaret Woods; they later divorced in 1967. On October 28, 1968 he married Wanda Woods in Girard, KS; she survives at the home.
Pup worked as a Truck Driver and was employed by Bowlus School Supply and Sr. Services of South East Kansas.
Pup was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church; was an avid baseball fan and a member of the Eagles.
Survivors include children Cynthia Hensley Sumpter of Pittsburg, KS, Barton (Bud) Hensley of Noel, MO, Robert W. Hensley of Cherryvale, KS, Richard (Rick) Hensley of Cherryvale, KS, Tammy Hensley Wells of Pittsburg, KS, Diana Hensley Large of Pittsburg, KS, Deborah Hensley Harper of Pittsburg, KS, Michael E. Hensley of Pittsburg, KS; brother Iven Hensley of Frontenac, KS; 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by infant son James Henry Hensley and son Sgt. Robert James Hensley; brothers Wayne, Charles, Everett, Floyd and Marvin Hensley, and a sister Bertha.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday May 16, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS with Fr. Robert McElwee as celebrant assisted by Ryan Sumpter and John Fogliasso. Burial will follow at the Frontenac City Cemetery. Visitation will be informal from 1-6 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Pup Hensley Baseball Scholarship Fund.
