Charles C. Wilson, 58, of Pittsburg, passed away peacefully after a brave two year-battle with cancer at 4:40 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2012 at the Via Christi Hospital with his family at his side.

He was born December 9, 1953 at Pittsburg, Kansas to Charles J. and Wanda V. (Pelican) Wilson.

On February 9, 1975, he was united in marriage to Theresa Butterfield at Lenexa, Kansas. They later had their marriage blessed on November 27, 1978 at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Chicopee. She survives at the family home.

Mr. Wilson worked in the maintenance department at McNally’s Foundry, Pittsburg Aluminum, Superior Industries, and Via Christi Village.

Membership was held in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Mr. Wilson also liked to fish, hunt, bowl and woodworking. He enjoyed helping others and was a handyman to any who needed help. Charles loved his grandchildren and made each of his grandchildren an adirondack chair.

In addition to his wife, Theresa, he is survived by three daughters, Katie Wilson of Pittsburg, Krissy Simon and her husband, Steven of Arcadia, and Kayla Wilson of Pittsburg; two brothers, James Wilson of Kansas City, Kansas and John Wilson of Kansas City, Missouri; a sister, Penny Wilson Hodges of Centerview, Missouri; his step-father, Darrell Dimmick of Warrensburg, MO; his mother-in-law, Barbara Schountz of Pittsburg; three grandchildren, Grace Wilson, Jordan and Gino Simon and Jaycee Heflin, whom he loved like a grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles J. Wilson and his mother, Wanda V. Dimmick.

A Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Wilson will be held at 10:30 am, Friday (Oct. 5, 2012) at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. A Liturgical Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 pm Thursday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family will receive friends following until 8:00 pm  Friends may call after 10:00 am Thursday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to Angels Among Us or the Chicopee Foundation.  These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th Street, Pittsburg, KS  66762.  Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
