David Edward Lane, 70, Liberal, Missouri went to be with his Eternal Father on Thursday, November 26, 2009.
David was born December 25, 1938 in Lamar, Mo., to Hebert Floyd and Gladys (Clark) Lane. He graduated from Liberal High School in 1957. He joined the US Navy shortly after graduation.
David and his wife, Esther Geraldine Nichols, was married on October 24, 1964 at the Pittsburg Church of Christ.  They shared 45 years of marriage. Early in their marriage they were active in the Kansas Jaycees where he served as the KS Regional Vice President for the US Jaycees.
For years David worked with his father to build Lanes Kennels in Liberal. He became the successor of the family business in the early 70’s. The business was well known around the world for its hunting dogs. He trained for many prominent customers including sports great Mickey Mantle and Cletus Boyer and also for the King of Nepal and Winthrop Rockefeller. David had some part time ventures at working in construction, fiber glass specialist for the Helio Aircraft and as a school bus driver for the Liberal Schools.
After leaving the kennel business, David turned to his love of the arts. He was very active in choral music, opera and drama. He appeared in many roles on many stages including the Pittsburg Community Theater, Stones Throw Dinner Theater, Carthage, Missouri Southern State University and the Pittsburg State University Opera Department. He was a founding member of the “Friends of the Southeast Kansas Symphony of Missouri Southern State University. He graduated from Missouri Southern in 2005 receiving a Bachelors Degree in Theater. He wrote many dramas and short stories.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Lane, of Liberal, MO; one son, Scott Lane and wife Heather of Wentzville, MO; one brother, Larry Lane of Wichita, KS; three grandsons. James Devon Lane,  Dawson, Lane and Brian Raper and one great grandson, Andrew James Raper. He was preceded in death by one son, Troy Lane, his parents; one brother, Gordon Lane and one sister, Nedra Barton.
Services will be Monday 1 PM at Pittsburg Church of Christ where David was a member for over 30 years, with burial at Liberal City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Konantz Warden Funeral Home.
