McCUNE —
Harold Arthur Lewis, 87, of McCune, KS, died at 3:55 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.
He was born June 13, 1924, at Amorita, OK, to Henry B. and Eunice E. (Smith) Lewis.
He attended Amorita High School and graduated in 1942.
Harold was a WWII Army Veteran, serving from May 1943 to February 1946. He was a technical sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star.
On April 14, 1946, he married Ruth Vivian Guffy at Anthony, KS.
Mr. Lewis worked as a farmer, firefighter, guard, carpenter and also worked for Cherokee County.
Membership was held in the Oswego Christian Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Parsons, Scottish Rite Consistory of Ft. Scott, and the Eastern Star of McCune.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Vivian Lewis of Frontenac, KS; two daughters, Mary Grace Lewis of Joplin, MO, and Paula Anne Lewis of Joplin, MO; a son, Charles Gene Lewis of Miamisburg, OH; seven grandchildren, Amanda Lewis of Seattle, WA, Cameron Lewis of Miamisburg, OH, Alexandria Lewis of Miamisburg, OH, Danielle Bortmes of Kansas City, KS, Kristina Bortmes of Pittsburg, KS, Brandon Eastwood of Pittsburg, KS, and Justin Eastwood of Littleton, CO; one great-grandchild Melody Eastwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Ruth Ann Lewis, and three sons, Ronald Arthur Lewis, Alan Harold Lewis, and Mark William Lewis. He was also preceded in death by three brothers Wendall Lewis, Delmar Lewis and Kenneth Lewis.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (June 13) at the Countryside Christian Church with Rev. Phil Hays officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Byron-Amorita Cemetery. The Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64 of Pittsburg will conduct the flag folding ceremony. The family suggests memorials to the Shriner’s Transportation Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th Street, Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
