Robert D. Palmer, 76, of Pittsburg passed away at 6:19 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Via Christi Village.

He was born April 12, 1936 at Mulberry, Kansas, the son of Ira and Ruth (Pilkington) Palmer. He graduated from Mulberry High School in 1954.

On December 30, 1954, he was united in marriage to Geri Rhodes at Arma, Kansas. She survives at the family home.

Mr. Palmer served in the United States Air Force.

He was a heavy equipment operator for P & M Coal Company and Midwest Mining.

Membership was held in Countryside Christian Church, United Mine Workers of America and the American Legion.

In addition to his wife, Geri Palmer, he is survived by a son, Bob Palmer and his wife, Janet of Nevada, MO; a daughter, Cindy Berry and her husband, Pat of Kansas City, MO; a granddaughter, Angela Lamb of Overland Park, KS; two grandchildren, Levi and Grace Palmer of Nevada, MO; a sister, Lucille Herrell of Butler, MO; and a nephew, Will Palmer and his wife, Vicki of Pittsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bill Palmer, a sister, Florence Palmer and a nephew, Wayne Palmer.

A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (June 16) at the Brenner Mortuary with Rev. Dan Moss officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday to sign the register at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be given to the Grandchildren Education Endowment Fund. These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary 114 East 4th Street, Pittsburg, KS, 66762.
