CARTHAGE, Mo. —

Jerome “Jerry” H. McClure, 68, of Carthage, went to his heavenly reward at 6:20 a.m., Friday, July 18, 2008, at his home.

Jerry was born on June 22, 1940, in Pittsburg, Kansas to Alvin and MaeBelle McClure. He was an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God.

Jerry graduated from Pittsburg State College, Pittsburg, Kansas, then taught school in Fort Scott, Kansas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He served as a printer for M.C. Jackson Company in Carthage and plant superintendent of Vallis Wyngroff Business Forms, Cherryvale, Kansas. He graduated from Central Bible College and was the first missionary printer for International Correspondence Institute in Brussels, Belgium. He was a missionary for 10 years, then worked with Lowell Lundstrom Ministries in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He served as pastor of Evangel Assembly of God in Carthage, Missouri from 1983 to 2004. He was a member of the Carthage Ministerial Alliance. While pasturing, he filled several offices in the Joplin Section Fellowship of the Assemblies of God including Assistant Presbyter and Secretary-Treasurer. He was currently serving as a representative for the Senior Adult Ministries, teaching an adult Sunday School class at Northview Assembly of God, and preaching in area churches.
He married Helen E. Studebaker on June 2, 1963, in Pittsburg, Kansas. She survives at the home. Other survivors include a son, Stephen McClure and wife, Regina, of Webb City; two daughters, Debbie Knight and husband, Eric, of Carthage, Mo.; and Becky Logan and husband David, of Shreveport, Louisiana; and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Richard McClure, of Pittsburg, Kansas, and sister-in-law, Erma McClure, of Columbus, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and MaeBelle McClure, and his brother David McClure, of Columbus, Kansas.
Jerry was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren camping, fishing, tutoring, and crafting. His favorite hobby was traveling and researching family history. He loved ministering to people and was always concerned for their needs. His desire was to always set a Christ-like example for his friends and family.
A visitation will be held Monday, July 21 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Evangel Assembly of God, Carthage, Missouri. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Northview Assembly of God, Webb City, Missouri. Contributions may be made to the Evangel Assembly of God, care of the Ulmer Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage, Missouri.
