Charles “Wayne” Cossey, age 47, of Carl Junction, MO passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Wayne was born on July 26, 1961 in Joplin, MO, the son of Charles Cossey and Lahoma Bowman Simpson. Wayne had accomplished so much in his 47 years, though almost half of his life he battled with cancer. Wayne had worked for Seinor Engineering and owned and operated C & S Properties. Wayne loved giving to others, especially kids. He volunteered at the Duenweg Baseball Fields for over 14 years. His contributions to the kids included rebuilding the existing field and adding a second for the younger players. Before leaving as the President of the League, the League named the complex Charles Wayne Cossey Field in his honor. Wayne also gave his time to the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Group and to the Awana’s at Forest Park Baptist Church. Wayne married Sheryl Ragonese Williams on Feb. 11, 1995 in Girard, KS. She survives. Additional survivors include one son, Shane Williams, of Olatha, KS; two daughters, Dr. Tammy Battaglia and her husband Kyle, of Pittsburg, KS and Tiffni Chapman and her husband Brian, of Girard, KS; his father, Charles Cossey and his wife Beverly, of Duenweg, MO; his mother, Lahoma Simpson and her husband Richard, of Joplin; three sisters, Cheryl Barchak and her husband John, of Joplin, Cindy Parker and her husband Don, of Joplin and Rene Johnson and her husband Keith, of Riverton, KS; two step brothers, Richard Lee Simpson and his wife Allison, of Joplin and Jeff Simpson and his wife Jennifer, of Carthage, MO; three grandchildren, Orion, Zoey and Mia Battlaglia; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, as well as a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Forest Park Baptist Church. Frank Settle and Dr. John Swadley will officiate. Interment will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary Wednesday evening. Those gentlemen honoring him as pallbearers will be Chris Parker, Curt Parker, Derek Johnson, Brian Chapman, Kyle Battaglia and Shane Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Craig Parker, Orion Battaglia and Gary Stacy. Contributions are requested in memory of Wayne to the Awana’s at Forest Park Baptist Church in care of the mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Chapel.
