Shawna Marie Sayre

Shawna Marie Sayre 40, of Pittsburg, Kan., died 12:30pm Friday August 22, 2008 at her home following a short illness. Shawna was born April 24, 1968 in Clay Center, Kan., to Nelson L. Butz Jr. and Karen Rankin. She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended area schools. In March of 1989 she married Steve L. Sayre in Galena, Kan; they later divorced in 1994.  Shawna worked as a Certified Nurses Aide for many years at area nursing homes but mostly Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac.

Shawna was of the United Methodist Faith.  She loved people and her pride was taking care of people in need. Survivors include ex-husband Steve L. Sayre of Arma; children Jeffery Sayre of Pittsburg, Beth Sayre of Pittsburg, Shelby Abram of Pittsburg, and Chase Abram of Gardner, Kan., her parents Nelson L. Butz Jr of Ft. Scott,  and Karen Rankin of Overland Park, Kan; step-mother Pam Butz of Ft. Scott; siblings Bryan Butz and wife Melanie of Leesville, S.C., Stacey Velia and husband Charlie of Arma, Brett Butz of Atlanta, GA, B.J. Butz of Pittsburg, Bobby Jo Bonds and husband Luther of Cape Giradeau, MO, Tami Patton and husband Bobby of Girard, Wendy Short of Ft. Scott, and Russell Stewart and wife Lisa of Longview, Texas; grandchildren Ashley and Katherine Sayre of Girard.

Funeral Services will be 10am Wednesday August 27, 2008 at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, with Rev. Steve Rankin officiating.  Burial will take place at a later date.  Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to7p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home were friends may call after 1pm.  In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of Shawna’s Children Education Fund.  Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S.
