Larry R. Messer was born on July 17, 1940 and passed away on Oct. 6, 2012 at St. Luke’s South Hospital, he was 72. He attended school as a young boy at Stone School in Cherokee Co, KS., and graduated high school in Columbus, KS. Larry went on to graduate college from Pittsburg State University in 1963. Before he finished college Larry married the love of his life Sandie Glad in Miami, OK in 1962. For 33 years he worked as an IT Manager at Hallmark Cards before retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Crestline Baptist Church. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Johnson County Fire District #1, beginning at the districts inception and continuing for 25 years. In his years of retirement Larry enjoyed many things, such as riding his motorcycle (across the US), hunting, fishing and fixing things for his family, friends and neighbors. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson Brendan. He will be greatly missed by all those who met and loved him.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Frank Messer and Grace (Williams) Messer. He is survived by his loving wife Sandie, their children; son Ben (Marissa) Messer, daughter Ashley Messer, and grandson Brendan Messer. He also left behind sisters; Marilyn (Kenneth) Frobish and Rosalie (John) Schocke, and brother Tom (Karla) Messer, nieces, nephews and a large extended family.

Visitation will be held at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210 on Oct. 11, 2012 from 7 – 8:30 PM and funeral services will be held the following morning at 10:30 AM at Stilwell United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family request Memorial Contributions be sent to Cross-Line Community Outreach 736 Shawnee Ave., Kansas City, KS 66105 or Stilwell United Methodist Church 19335 Metcalf Ave., Stilwell, KS 66085.
