Norma Jean (Miller) Bolt, 84, of Pittsburg, passed away at 7:04 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2012 at her home.

She was born April 9, 1928 at Pittsburg, the daughter of Robert and Vivian (Campbell) Miller. She graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelors degree in General Studies and a Masters degree in Art.

On June 29, 1947, she was united in marriage to Joseph Fred Bolt at the First United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2005.

Mrs. Bolt was a local artist who provided paintings to schools, churches, nursing homes and other not for profits across Southeast Kansas.  She was recognized as a major Kansas Artist by Governor John Carlin in 1984.  Kansas Governor John Hayden recognized Mrs. Bolt as one of the state's volunteers of the year in 1990.  She volunteered with a number of agencies, including Residential Center for Youth. She was a writer, teacher and encourager to many.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pittsburg.

Survivors include a son, Fred Robert Bolt of Weir, KS; a daughter, Katie Bolt-Goeke of Overland Park, KS; two sisters, Melva Glaser  and Katie Jo Bolt, both of Pittsburg; four grandchildren, Michelle Masoner, Joshua Bolt Goeke, Katrina Bolt Goeke, and William Bolt; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan Reese, Levi Kendrick, and Bolt Nathan Goeke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a great-grandson, C.J. Reese.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (April 25) at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg with Ministers Joshua and Kara Goeke, helping lead the service, the Rev. Jim Akins presiding. For those who would like to express their sympathy in lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to Wesley House &/or First United Methodist Church.  Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 East Fourth Street, Pittsburg, Kansas 66762. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com. Mrs. Bolt has willed her body to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
