Shirley Ann Palmer, 85, of Pittsburg, KS, died at 3 am, Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg of a short illness. She had been a patient in the hospital for 10 days.
She was born November 10, 1927 in Pittsburg the daughter of John Jacob and Jane Elizabeth Gavin Forshay. She had been a resident of Pittsburg her entire life and was graduated from St. Mary’s High School with the class of 1945.
She married James R. “Jim” Palmer on June 5, 1948 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg. He survives at the home.
Mrs. Palmer had been a homemaker for most of her life.
Membership was held in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Mt. Carmel Auxiliary, and was an avid Bowler.
Survivors in addition to her husband include three sons James Michael Palmer and wife Patty of Chillicothe, MO, Robert Lee Palmer and wife Marsha of Frontenac, and Jerry D. Palmer of Pittsburg, one sister Mary Fanello of Derby, KS, 10 grandchildren Brooke Grothe and husband Ted, Brian Palmer, Brad Palmer, Jessica McDonald and husband Zach, Aaron Palmer and wife Miranda, Jenae Journot and husband Aaron, Jayni Dice and husband Dustin, Jordon Garrison and wife Stephanie, Grace Palmer and Carson Palmer. Four great grandchildren Josie Palmer, Liam Palmer, Henry McDonald and Peyton Dice. A special niece that was the daughter they never had Marvene Darraugh and a great grandchild on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy Segat.
Funeral services will be 10 am Friday, January 4, 2012 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg, KS with Father Thomas Stroot and Father Larry Parker, officiating. Burial will be in the Pittsburg Garden of Memories. The parish rosary will be recited at 7 pm Thursday, January 3, 2012 at the funeral home, where the family will receive their friends after the rosary service. Friends may call after 1 pm Thursday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg. A memorial has been established to Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
