Adonis (Doni) Weathers, Jr., age 53 of Pittsburg, Kan., passed away at 1:13 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin after an illness.

Born in Joplin, he had lived in the Joplin area most of his lifetime. Doni was a sales manager in the Fast Food and Retail Shoe businesses, until sustaining injuries in an automobile accident in 2000. He had also served in the U.S. Air Force. He attended Handy Chapel AME Church. Doni also served as a counselor for an addiction recovery center in Wichita, Kan.

Survivors include his son, Donavan Epperson of Joplin; two daughters, Cicely Fields of Shelton, Tex., Ashton Jones of Nashville, Tenn.; his mother, Phyllis Rodgers Thomas and stepfather, Marsden G. Thomas, Jr. of Pittsburg; his brother, Monte Weathers and wife Tia of Topeka, Kan.; two sisters, Twyla Joy Weathers of Denver, Colo., Pepper Weathers of Nevada, Mo. and many extended family and friends.

His father, Adonis Weathers, Sr., preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Parker Chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be Irwin Palmer, Stratton Epperson, Gary (Cat) Johnson, Michael Hill, Keith Wilson and Ernest Givens. The family will receive friends following the service at the Community Center, 110 S. Main St. in Joplin. Memorial contributions may be made to Boys and Girls Club of Joplin.
