Judith G. Shaw, 81, Pittsburg died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas.

She was born March 21, 1931 in Champaign, Illinois the daughter of Judson Roy and Phoebe Helen (Gaston) Griffin.

She graduated from Bowling Green High School in three years at the age of sixteen.  She received her undergraduate degree from Western Kentucky State University and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Masters.  She was a Fulbright Scholar and studied at the Sorbonne. She received an ABD from the University of Paris.

Judith taught at Georgetown University in 1956 and in 1959 she began her lifetime career teaching European History at Pittsburg State University where she was employed until her death.

She was active in Community and University organizations including: KNEA, Faculty Senate, American History Association, British Studies Association, Kansas History Teachers Association, Phi Alpha Theta, History Club, International Students Association, Native American groups, Altrusa and 60+.

Survivors include a son, Michael Shaw of Le Roy, Kansas, a step-grandson, Shawn Lane of Lawrence, Kansas, a sister-in-law, Patty Griffin of Huntsville, Alabama, nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Judson Roy Griffin II.

Memorial services will be held at McCray auditorium, McCray Hall, on the Pittsburg State University campus Saturday, February, 2nd at 2 p.m.
