William F. “Bill” Evans, 62, of Farlington, Kansas, died at 2:18 P.M., Thursday, November 11, 2009 in the Kansas City Veterans Administration Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born September 25, 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee, a son of William Alfred and Barbara Kathleen (Foster) Evans.  He grew up and attended schools in Kansas City, Missouri.
He served in the US Army from March 16, 1967 until April 15, 1968.  He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He worked as a house painter in Kansas City, Girard and Columbus, Kansas.
He married Mary Ann Brouhard on May 30, 1989 in Miami, Oklahoma.  She survives of the home.
He was a member and past commander of the George C. Brown Post No. 26, American Legion of Girard, Kansas and he was a member of the Steven Bennefeld Post No. 7479, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Girard, the Priestly-Ridley Post No. 35, American Legion of Cherokee, Kansas, and the Captain Joe Carter Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1372 of Columbus.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Mary Ann Evans, are sons Michael Evans and Joey Allen, both of Columbus and a daughter, Tracy Evans of Columbus;  a step-son, Brett Peugh of Joplin, Missouri;  8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Michael Evans of Belton, Missouri and sisters Donna Lee Stuby of Kansas City, Missouri and Kathy Evans of Belton.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with the Chaplain of the George C. Brown Post No. 26, American Legion of Girard officiating.  Burial will be at 2:30 P.M., Tuesday at the Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Funeral Detail.  The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:00 P.M., Monday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 1:00 P.M., Monday.
Memorials are suggested to assist the family with final expenses and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
