Surrounded by his loving wife and family Edward Michael Keating Sr., age 92, peacefully passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at his home. He was born March 10, 1920, in Fulton, Kansas the son of John Francis Keating Sr. and Mary Eva Erie Keating. One of fifteen children, he was raised on a farm three miles west of Fulton and attended Fulton School’s. He was member of the class of 1939. He left the area in 1946, serving in the coast Guard reserve in California. He spent the following two years in the Pacific working for Guam Dredging. Upon returning home, Ed met the love of his life, Patricia Sue Warzel. Along with her sister Edith Worzel and Bernard Gorman, They were married June 9, 1949, in a double wedding ceremony at Mary Queen of Angels Church in Fort Scott. Ed remained a life long member of the parish.

Ed purchased Johnson’s Auto Electric on Market Square in 1950. The business became a Motorcraft battery distributor in 1961 and subsequently a complete Ford Motorcraft distributorship in 1967. Incorporating, the business became Johnson’s Auto Electric, which could warehouse and sell to dealers, and K&K Auto Parts could sell to the public. Changes in government regulations eventually enabled K&K Auto Parts to both warehouse and sell parts. In 1973, K&K moved into the old Foodtown building at 6th St. and National Ave., where it remains today. A humble man, Ed was grateful to his faithful customers, friends, and most of all his family, who sacrificed and helped build K&K. A true family business, at one time or another, all the Keating children, many in-laws and most of the grandchildren have been involved in K&K Auto Parts in some aspect. A hard working man all of his life, Ed could be found most days a K&K until the age of 91, when ill health forced him to remain in home in December of 2011. Ed was a kind and generous man whenever knew a stranger. One of his greatest pleasures was traveling with his buddies to Rich Hill, Missouri, where he purchased produce and jelly from the Mennonite community to share with customers, friends, and family. Edward’s life was filled with his faith, family, and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Patricia, of the home, he is also survived by six children, Edward M. Keating Jr., and wife Janet of Bucyrus, Ks. John F. Keating III and wife Charlene of Fort Scott, Mary Lowry and husband John of Joplin, Mo. Beth Ann Graham and husband Daryl of Fort Scott, Patricia Kramer and husband Mike of Fort Scott, and Shawn Keating and wife Sandi of Fort Scott. Also surviving are, twenty-six grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren, with another on the way. And a brother Daniel Keating and wife Betty of Adrian, Mo.  In addition to his parents Ed was preceded in death by five brothers; infant Joseph, John Francis Jr., Peter, Anthony, and Phillip, nine sisters; Elizabeth Sheehy, Marie Lohmann, Louise Foster, Margaret Elene Horest, Josephine Rogers, Teresa Terrile, Bernadine Link, and Loretta Magee.
