Ruth Jean Taylor, 90, of Pittsburg, passed away at 8:07 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2013, at the Guest Home Estates, Pittsburg.

She was born August 23, 1922, near LaHarpe, KS, the daughter of Herschel and Mable (Saeger) Smith.

In 1943, she was united in marriage to Ralph E. Taylor, Jr.  He preceded her in death on January 31, 2007.

Mrs. Taylor received her Teaching Degree from Kansas State Teacher’s College, now P.S.U. and taught in the Pittsburg School District.  While attending Kansas State Teacher’s College she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and cheerleader.

Membership was held in the Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg, where she was a past Deacon.  She was also a member of  P.E.O. Chapter C J, Wednesday Study Club, Crestwood Country Club and Daughter’s of the Nile.  She was a Pink Lady at Mt. Carmel Hospital for many years.  She was a former dance teacher of tap and ballroom dancing.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by three sons, Michael M. Taylor, M.D., and his wife, Jan of Godfrey, IL, Timothy S. Taylor and his wife, Mary Pat of Kansas City, MO, and Ralph E. Taylor III and his wife, Patsy of Fort Smith, AR, six grandchildren, Patricia Burson, Matthew Taylor, Stacey Logan, Ret Taylor, Jeffrey Taylor and Beth Taylor, two great grandchildren, Owen and Turner Logan.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ione Cooper.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at the Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg, with Reverend K.O. Noonoo officiating. 
Private family burial will take place at a later time at the Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg.  The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor.  The family suggests memorials to the Presbyterian Church and/or P.E.O.
(Scholarship Fund).  These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.  Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
