James L. “Jim” Call, 71, of rural Arma, died at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Via Christi Hospital at Pittsburg, Kan.
Mr. Call was born Feb. 17, 1941, at Pittsburg, Kan., the son of Emory H. and Roselle Fox Call. Jim was an electrician who lived in the Girard and Arma area since 1970. He was raised in rural Walnut and attended Kavanaugh Grade School. He attended Girard High School and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1958. He married Gloria Vargas on Nov. 22, 1967, at Tulsa, Okla. Gloria survives of the home. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, the Lon Helm Post #182 American Legion of Arma, the Elks Lodge of Pittsburg, and the Mirza Shrine. He served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Gloria, of the home; one son, Brent Call and his wife Andrea of Reno, Nev.; four sisters, Kay Meyer of rural Girard, Rosemary Alexander of Prescott, Wisc., Jean Blaes of Pittsburg, and Joan Westhoff of Walnut; three brothers, Jack Call of Wichita, Donald Call of McCune, and Tom Call of Girard; four grandchildren, Harrison (Kathryn), Dakota, Hagen, and Ashton Call, and one great granddaughter, Kennedy Call. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Call.
Mr. Call has been cremated according to his wishes. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Thomas Stroot as the celebrant. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at the Bedene Chapel. The family will be at the home of his sister, Kay Meyer, 489 E. 612th Ave., Girard, KS. The family suggests memorials to the Mirza Shrine Transportation Fund. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 66712
