Gloria Thomas, 94, of rural Weir, died Friday, February 22, 2013 at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, KS.

She was born July 3, 1918 in Cherokee County, KS the daughter of Ray and Ruby Doss Gaston.  She had been an area resident her entire life.

Mrs. Thomas graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in education.

She married Charles “Art” Thomas on June 9, 1940 at the family home.  He preceded her in death on December 11, 2011.

Mrs. Thomas was a school teacher, working in the Messer Consolidated District (Riverton), Spencer Consolidated in Cherokee County and USD 250 at George Nettles Elementary School in Pittsburg.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in Opolis, KS.

Survivors include one son Phil Thomas and wife Pamela of Pittsburg, KS;  one brother Gilford Gaston of Royal Illinois;  one grandchild Melissa Whitmer and husband Adam of Broomfield, CO;  two great grandchildren Lauren and Lane Whitmer.

She was preceded in death by her parent’s one son Gary Wayne Thomas and four siblings.

Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg, with the Rev. Gerald Holden, officiating.  Private burial will be the Crocker Cemetery south of Pittsburg, KS.  The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am Wednesday at the funeral home.  Friends may call anytime at their convenience from 1 to 5 pm on Tuesday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg.  A memorial has been established in Mrs. Thomas’ memory to the Crocker Cemetery or Hospice Compassus in care of the funeral home.  Condolences may be left at our website www. bathnaylor.com.
