Paulette Cora Smith, age 52 of Galena, Kan., passed away at 7:42 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born February 15, 1961 in Lakeland, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Claude Smith and Cora Johnston Smith and lived in the Pittsburg area most of her lifetime. Paulette worked in several occupations, the last of which was Bo’s One Stop at Hwy. 69 and 4th in Pittsburg. She was a member of Faith and New Hope Church in Carterville. She loved to fish, was a great cook and enjoyed raising plants.
She married Randy Beatty on February 26, 1977 and later divorced after 20 years of marriage.
Survivors include her husband, Don Workman; daughter, Beth Beatty and husband Bryan McClendon of Girard, Kan.; son Derek Beatty and Kimberly Shead of Pittsburg; three stepdaughters, Rena and Kylee Workman, Morgan Levya; her mother, Cora Seat of Oronogo, Mo.; three sisters, Janet Scholes and husband Jerry of Pittsburg, Brenda Davidson and husband Richard of Carthage, Mo., Pam Wilson and husband Brian of Pittsburg; nine grandchildren; Brittany Beatty, Bradley and Brady McClendon, Jadyn and Xiden Beatty, Max Workman, Alec Levya, Dallas and Leo Workman; one great-granddaughter, Harper Webb.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Claude “Rocky” Smith.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday at Parker Chapel in Joplin, 1502 S Joplin Ave. Rev. P.J. Hutchinson will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Curtis Scholes, Shane Beauchamp, Brandon Scholes, Josh Smith, Andy Sharp and Bradley McClendon. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary.
