Dr. Beth Marie Bradrick died at Sunset Manor in Frontenac, Kansas, February 25, 2013 surrounded by her immediate family. Her husband, William G. Bradrick of the home and two daughters, survive her: Lisa Ross of Stockton, MO and Adrienne Christiansen of Minneapolis, MN. She is also survived by granddaughter Laura Beth Ross and son-in-law Alan Ross (of Stockton, MO), and her brother, Daryell Thompson of Crestline, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Louise Thompson of Columbus, KS.

Private graveside services will be held at Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg on Thursday, February 28, 1:00 p.m.  A public celebration of Beth’s life will be held at the Timmons Ballroom in the historic Stilwell Hotel in Pittsburg, KS (707 N. Broadway) on Sunday, March 17th 2:00-5:00 p.m.

Dr. Bradrick was born in Picher, OK and grew up in Marysville, CA. She moved to Southeast Kansas after completing high school.  She was an educator and Democratic activist who owned her own grant-writing business, BB2.  She secured many grants that benefitted both Pittsburg State University and people in need.  Pittsburg’s Small World Nursery and the USD 250 Family Resource Center were established due to grants she secured.  Bradrick was also the author of a book on alternative energy sources published by the PSU Vocational Technical Institute and co-author of several short books on workplace issues.

Dr. Bradrick received her bachelor’s, master’s, and educational specialist degrees from Pittsburg State University, and her Ph.D. from Kansas State University.

Dr. Bradrick was deeply involved in the life of her community. For twenty years, she coordinated and cooked for Pittsburg’s community Thanksgiving dinner.  She served on the Crawford County Public Buildings Planning Commission, chaired the Pittsburg Public Library board of directors, chaired the Stilwell Heritage and Educational Foundation board of directors, and served on the Little Balkans Historic Preservation Guild.

She also committed herself to improving living conditions for Kansans.  For 10 years, she represented labor and industry on the Kansas Human Rights Commission, was a member of the Kansas Board of Adult Care Home Administrators, and was Human Resources Specialist for the EDWAA of the Kansas Department of Human Resources.

In addition to her exquisite cooking abilities, Dr. Bradrick is perhaps best known for her leadership in Southeast Kansas’ Democratic politics.  For 17 years, she was Chair of the Crawford County Democratic Party, co-founded “D” Wild Ones, was elected Vice-Chair of the 2nd Congressional District and sponsored the local Young Democrats Club.  She attended the 2008 Democratic National Nominating Convention in Boston, MA as one of Kansas’ delegates.  Between 2007-2009, she worked as director of constituent services for U.S. Congresswoman Nancy Boyda.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to an organization of your choice.  Condolences can be sent to www.bathnaylor.com.  Memorial contributions can be mailed to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg, KS 66762.
