Dr. Ebert W. “Al” Crandall, 89, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2009.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 14 at Grace United Methodist Church, 11485 Ridgeview Road, Olathe, Kansas.
Dr. Crandall was born November 4, 1920 in Normal, Illinois. He graduated from Normal (Illinois) Community High School, Illinois State Normal University, and the University of Missouri-Columbia. He served in the US Navy from 1944-1946 and was head of the chemistry department at Kentucky Wesleyan College from 1950-1951. He married Betty Jo Baber of Winchester, Kentucky on June 2, 1951. They lived in Detroit, Michigan in 1951 where Dr. Crandall worked as a research chemist at the US Rubber Company. They moved to Pittsburg, Kansas in 1952 where he taught organic chemistry at Kansas State Teachers College (now Pittsburg State University) until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, Kiwanis Clubs in Pittsburg and Overland Park, Grace United Methodist Church, and the 95th & Quivira HyVee Coffee Club.
Survivors include his wife Betty of 58 years; four children, Paula Crandall (Jerry Blevins) of Yates Center, Kansas, Patricia Gealy (Bruce) of Wichita, Kansas, Linda Ann Crandall of Parsons, Kansas, and William Crandall (Linda) of Overland Park, Kansas; and four grandchildren, Amanda and Alexandra Gealy and Derrick and Darci Crandall.
Donations may be made in Al’s memory to the American Heart Association or to Grace United Methodist Church.
