Orville Leroy Stevens, 79, of rural McCune, quietly passed away at 1:04 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg, following surgery and a short illness.
He was born February 7, 1930 at the rural McCune home, to Ernest Orville and Lela Pearl (Boore) Stevens. He attended school and graduated from West Mineral School. On June 3, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Brenner in Parsons, Kansas.
He farmed his entire life and was an avid horseman. He sold Horse and Stock Trailers, dba Stevens Trailer Sales for forty five years. He served several years on the McCune Coop Board of Directors. He was a member of the Columbus Saddle Club and the United Methodist Church of West Mineral. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of the home; Kent Stevens of the home; Karen Parsons and husband, Jerry of Joplin, MO; Kristi Braden and husband, Dan of Pittsburg; Kraig Stevens and wife, Michelle of Scammon, KS; one granddaughter and six grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Montie and a sister, Florence (Opal) Stevens Brenner. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the West Mineral United Methodist Church in West Mineral, KS, with Reverend Linda Eads officiating. Mr. Stevens has been cremated.
Private family burial of the cremains will take place at a later date in the Cherokee Cemetery, Cherokee, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
