George J. Davied Jr., 84, of Girard died at 4:20 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Girard Medical Center at Girard.
Mr. Davied was born April 8, 1925 at Greenbush, Kansas the son of George J. “Jody” and Minnie McClelland Davied Sr. George was a retired coal miner who worked for Mackie-Clemens Coal Company for 20 years retiring in 1987. He was a lifelong resident of Crawford County and attended Greenbush schools. Mr. Davied married Pauline Trout in Girard and they later divorced. He married Darlene Brauer in Miami, Oklahoma. Darlene preceded him in death May 1999. Mr. Davied was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the George C. Brown Post #26 at Girard and the Arma Masonic Lodge. Survivors include five daughters, Sharon Harris and her husband Earl of Girard, Charlotte Pittman and her husband Cortie of Afton, Oklahoma, Kathy Davied of Pittsburg, Cindy Hoffman and her husband Tim of Pittsburg, and Jennifer Walters of Tulsa, Oklahoma, five sons, John Davied and his wife Carolyn of Lyndon, Kansas, Bob Davied and his wife Lana of Towanda, Kansas, Joe Davied and his wife Gina of Frontenac, Mike Davied and his wife Kay of Tucson, Ariz., and Rick Davied and his wife Missy of Liberal, Missouri, two sisters, Barbara Ann Unrein of Girard and Mary Jo Boyd of Pittsburg, one brother, John Lou Davied of Pittsburg, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Davied was preceded in death by his parents, three daughters, Joan and Margaret Davied and Donna Smith, and a great-grandson, Zachary Davied.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church at Girard with Father Lawrence Carney as the celebrant. Burial will be at the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery at Greenbush, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at the Bedene Chapel. The Navy Burial Detail will conduct graveside services. The family suggests memorials to the Mirza Shrine Transportation Fund.
