Teresa LeAnn Kemp, age 41, passed from this life Wednesday, July 22, 2009 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Teresa was born September 12, 1967 in Joplin, Mo. to the union of Gary Gilstrap and Susan Farris. She was united in marriage August 15, 1992 in Pittsburg, Ks to John Kemp. Teresa graduated college with an EDS degree in education. She taught at Pittsburg, Baxter Springs, New York City, and just completed her thirteenth year at Riverton. She loved coaching volleyball and track at Riverton. She was a member of the Riverton Friends Church. Teresa was a very giving and kind hearted person, she donated the gift of life through her organ donation to many people.
Teresa is preceded in death by her grandparents Clyde Gilstrap and wife Zola, Orlyn Dillion and wife Carman; one daughter Taylor Kemp. She is survived by her husband John Kemp; her mother and stepfather Susan Farris and husband Floyd; her father and stepmother Gary Gilstrap and wife Kathy; one sister Christina Leggett; two stepsisters Tracy Rassett and Cathy McGlothlin; one brother Jason Gilstrap; two stepbrothers Dale Rassett, and Chris Farris.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Riverton High School, Riverton, Ks. Pastor Wes Davis and Bro. Jeff Adams will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the Lowell Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009 at Riverton Friends Church, Riverton, Ks. In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorial donations be made to Teresa and Taylor Kemp Memorial Scholarship Foundation in care of Riverton Friends Church or Derfelt Funeral Homes.
