Raymond L. LaSota, 77, of Franklin, died at 8:06 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan.

Mr. LaSota was born Oct. 29, 1935, at Franklin, Kan., the son of John and Sophie Pater LaSota. Raymond was a retired supervisor for the Crawford County Highway Department where he worked for 46 years. He was raised in Franklin and attended Cockerill schools. He was a lifelong resident of Franklin and an avid Democrat. He married Betty Nevin on March 24, 1961, at Miami, Okla. Betty preceded him in death on September 4, 1987. He later married Patricia Bruegger on February 2, 1990, at Miami, Okla. Patty survives at the home. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Arma, the Washington Township Clerk of 40 years, served as precinct committeeman for many years, and served on the Franklin Water Board. Survivors include his wife, Patty of the home; a son, Andy (Karen) LaSota of Franklin; a daughter, Kim (Jerry) Harman of rural Pittsburg; six step-children, Justin (Teresa) Williams of Stilwell, Kan., Latricia (Charles) Langlois of Arlington, Texas, Michele (Sam) Jovanovich of Plainfield, Ct., Cameron (Carolyn) Williams of Peru, Kan., Brandon (Tasha) Williams of Mulberry, and Landon (Sonya) Williams of Hardtner, Kan.; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and his beloved dog Fluffy. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; two sisters, Virginia Pichler and brother-in-law Henry Pichler and Mary Sowinski and brother-in-law Stanley Sowinski.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma with Father Roger Lumbre and Father Robert McElwee as cocelebrants. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. Rosary will be said at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma where the family will receive friends after 6 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the St. Ann’s Altar Society Funeral Dinner Fund. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 66712.
