Robert H. Wingard, 101, of Pittsburg, KS. Died 8am Wednesday February 13, 2013 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, KS. After moving to live with family in Copan, OK. In November 2010.
Robert was born July 31, 1911 the son of Clyde and Lula May (Kribbs) Wingard at the family farm in Lamartine, PA. Attended school in Grove City, PA, Canton, OH and graduated from McKinley High School in Canton, OH in 1930.
Robert worked after school at gas stations and grocery stores to his family after his father died. He later worked for Nelson Corporation in Canton, OH and did tree work for the utility company. He traveled throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., Missouri, and Kansas. The company later changed to “Banks Tree Service”. He worked in Wichita, Arkansas City, Independence, and later Pittsburg for 25 years trimming trees for KG&E. He retired in 1975 to later work for the “Port of Entry”.
Robert, drafted by the U.S. Army, served 3 years with the 42nd Rainbow Division in Europe during WWII.
Robert was a member of College Heights Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #187 for 50 years, American Legion #64, United Commercial Travelers, Senior Citizens and head of Cub Scouts at Eugene Field School.
Robert married Alberta Johnson in 1949, she had one son Gary Lee Johnson. She preceded him in death in 1956.
He later married Mildred Moore in 1958, she had one son Harry Lee Moore. She preceded him in death in 1971.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bernard, Richard, and Hugh Wingard; 1 son Harry Moore, and a good friend and neighbor Arlene Jacks.
Robert is survived by 1 son Gary Lee Johnson and wife, Judith F. Johnson, Daughter-in-law Wendy Moore. 5 grandchildren Robert W. Johnson and wife, JoAnna Johnson, Johnnie L. Johnson, Jimmie D. Johnson, Katie Moore, and Andrew Moore. 7 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren. Many, many friends and neighbors.
Graveside Memorial Services will held at Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS Saturday February 23, 2013 at 10am. Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the National Guard Detail Team of Topeka, KS.
