James Joseph (Jimmy Joe) Sullivan, 81, of Weir Kansas, passed away March 4, 2013 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas from complications of pneumonia.

Born October 15, 1931 in Weir to Steven and Margaret Mary (Feichtl) Sullivan and had lived in the Weir and Webb City area most of his life.      

Jim attended schools in Weir and graduated from Weir High School in 1949.  After graduation he served as a Dieselman 3rd Class aboard the USS Botetourt during the Korean Conflict.  After being honorably discharged he went back to school graduating from Pittsburg State University with a degree in Mathematics and Civil Engineering.

While attending college Jim worked for Spencer Chemical and then later sold real estate for Brookman Realty, Katy Railroad, and finally retiring from Acme Brick Company in 1993
On April 27, 1983 he married Margaret Ann Penrod.  Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Weir.  When the diocese closed the smaller churches his membership transferred to St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife of the home, one sister Philomenia Mason of Broken Arrow, OK, two daughters, Kelly Mitchell of Weir, Marci Taylor and her husband Mark of rural Girard, two sons, Stephen Sullivan of Alba, MO and John Penrod of Wichita, Kansas;  five grandchildren, Matthew Taylor, Shanon Linn and her husband Corporal Caleb Linn, Myles Taylor and Zoe Sullivan;  two great grandchildren, Cash and Wyatt;  one niece Margaret Leota Moore and her husband Luke.  As a good friend to many and loved by all, Pop Pop will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 8, from 6 to 7 pm with Rosary being said at 7 pm at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir.  Funeral Mass will be held 10 am Saturday at St Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, Kansas with Father Marco De Loera, celebrant.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be given to The Wounded Warrior Project at support.woundedwarriorproject.org.  Condolences may be left at our web site www.bathnaylor.com.
