Gregory Val Bever, 59, of Girard, Kansas died at 10:30 P.M., Thursday, September 4, 2008 in the Girard Medical Center.
He was born December 27, 1948 in Girard, a son of Val Gene and Willadean (Mitchell) Bever.
He attended grade school in Farlington, Kansas and graduated from Girard High School in 1967. In his senior year, he received the Mr. Backfield and Mr. Basketball awards. He attended PSU and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
He played baseball for the Farlington Lakers and Post No. 64, American Legion in Pittsburg, Kansas.
He served as a Specialist Four in the US Army Reserves from 1969 until 1974.
He worked as a farmer at rural Farlington and later at Dayco in Fort Scott, Kansas.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Farlington and the George C. Brown Post No. 26, American Legion in Girard.
He was an avid sports fan and he enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing.
Survivors are his mother, Willadean Bever of Girard; a sister, Susan Friggeri and her husband Rob of Girard; nephew and nieces Ryan Bever, Erin Bever, Abby Onelio, and Jill Wyrick; numerous aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, Val Gene Bever, on March 22, 2000, and a brother, Rodney Gene Bever, on June 13, 1988.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Rev. Steve Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Farlington Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M., until service time at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 1:00 P.M., Sunday.
