Dear Editor
I was so excited when I was encouraged to open the time capsule that had been found by Ed Scherrer of Ameri- Source Services and his crew at Lincoln School. I have been in contact with Mr. Scherrer off and on about the deconstruction and the wonderful service they are doing for our community. They deconstruct projects, remove viable items, reuse items and save tons and tons of debris from going into our landfills.
For far too long, construction debris from new building projects and buildings that been demolished are thrown into Dumpsters, headed for the landfill. Many cities and towns across the U.S.  have run out or are running out of room for their trash. We have space but eventually we too could be scrambling to find locations for dumpsites.
Mr. Scherrer and his crew have salvaged numerous items out of this building, so many things that will not go into our trash. They have removed chalkboards, hardwood flooring, trim, floor joists and much, much more. Eventually they will be taking the bricks and limestone too. These items will be sold and reused in projects across the United States.
I really hope in the future that the city, contractors and citizens will think before just throwing it away. Thanks to the SEK Recycling Center, people are recycling more and that is a wonderful thing but we must not forget it also takes Reducing and Reusing too. Check out the Web sites d-build.org and ameri-sourceservices.com for more information.
