Tax holiday

Dear Editor
Joy Leeper’s column published on November 18 was pointed at helping the “little guy.” Us “little guys” — self employed, underemployed, and homeowners in small town America — will be better served by government through lowering taxes and reducing government intervention. The bailouts — costing billions in tax dollars — trickle down on us in two ways, 1) increased taxes for us and, 2) more government control of lives and businesses.
Many people believe the government stimulus will create jobs — maybe it will. The best way to create jobs is to remove government controls in the form of taxes and regulations. This will allow businesses — great and small — to offer more goods and services at lower prices to the buying public.
Here is an idea — although not an original one. A one year tax holiday for all businesses and individuals. There would be a cost in tax revenues. People would have more dollars, businesses could hire more workers, and the buying and selling of their goods and services in a free-market would create more jobs and move the economy forward. When the tax holiday is over, tax revenues regain strength and more bailouts would be avoided.
