“Eureka” as Archimedes would have said, I am amazed to learn from the Morning Sun “Opinions” page that we are blessed in this area with theorists who have the answers to all of our economic, international conflicts, health care, climatic, financial, etc., problems. They are too modest to list their PhDs, MBAs or other qualifications, but I would venture that some are “students” of “Fox University” and have been “mentored” by eminent instructors as Hannity, Beck, Rove, Limbaugh and O’Reilly.
To their shame they “hid their candle under a bushel” and did not impart their knowledge years ago, which could have prevented the “helluva” mess we are in today. And we also have a prophetess who personally warns certain politicians “their days are numbered.” I would suggest this is a little dire but I would not object to keeping Guantanamo open and incarcerating a horde of our greedy “pork loving” legislators and the insurance and drug giants’ lobbyists.
The lady also suggests “our country is being led away from the path God has called for her.” History books and the Bible fail to mention any such call to U.S., Russia, China, etc., but of course any Biblist has the right to interpret the Bible as many of the hundreds of sects have done.
Assuming they are devout Christians, as supposedly 70 percent of us are, they conveniently overlook Christ’s admonition in the parable of the Good Samaritan.
As for prophecy: After living during the years of bread lines, soup kitchens, marches, riots, suicides, bank failures, foreclosures, etc., of the Great Depression, I fear for what will happen when unemployment funds run out, savings are gone and cash values are taken on insurance policies and we still have millions unemployed without health care and children to clothe and feed, and two wars to fight.
We could return to slavery, which was permitted by our hallowed forefathers for almost a century, or adopt the conservatives’ attitude, similar to that of Marie Antoinette, who when told the peasants had no bread said, “Let them eat cake.” But, of course, they lopped off her head.
Our theorists worry about communism, fascism and socialism, but they fail to realize that when a citizen is unemployed, has unpayable debts, children to feed, no health care and a bleak future, while others dine on caviar, any “ism” or even slavery might have an appeal. The “Hoover” depression was an abomination but “Bush” depression could be worse if it lasts for a decade as some economists predict. As for taxes, I would recommend our theorists check their history books and recall the confiscatory personal tax rates and excise taxes during World War II and remember the country and our people survived.
