Middle East

Dear Editor:
Some people do not like the Jews. Some do not like the Arabs. Some do not like either. Having been closely associated with both Jews and Arabs in my life, I appreciate them both. But in all fairness, Israel should not give up any of its territory for creation of a Palestinian homeland.
However, I think it is fair that the Palestinians do have a home to call their own. They are one of the few “universally homeless” people on earth with no nation to call their own. For three decades, I have advocated a homeland for the Palestinians. But, I no longer believe it should be at the expense of the Israelis.
What one of the peace negotiators or diplomats should propose is that a Palestinian state be created from one of the Arab nations. Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Libya are good-sized countries which could spare a chunk of their territory for their “brothers.”
This would solve a lot of problems. The Palestinians and Jews would not be in each other’s face nor have to obey the laws, needs, wants and mores of each other’s culture. And both would have a homeland.
Israel needs to keep the land that God gave to Abraham. They don’t have much space to begin with. The Palestinians need a home and a perfect place would be within the borders of another Arab country. Hopefully one of the U.S. or European diplomats working on peace in the Middle East will lay an idea like this on the table.
