PITTSBURG —
It seems to me that Pittsburg has so many ordinances that it cannot manage the ones on the books. They say that they have an ordinance that requires everyone with a water meter to have trash service. The Task Force estimated that 20 percent do not have service now. They have failed to enforce their own ordinance and now they want to take on the trash business. The City recently tried adding “International” Mechanics Codes ordinances which would more than double the number of ordinances we have now and it would definitely dampen business. One ordinance would require everyone with a sidewalk in front of their property to have it in top condition or the city could have the work done and file a lien on the property if it is not paid!
I was misquoted at the last Solid Waste Task Force meeting. I stated that anything that the City did that would adversely affect the trash haulers’ businesses would be immoral. These fine citizens get up early, work hard and do a great job. The problem we have in Pittsburg is with bureaucrats and administrators continually expanding their turf and spending wildly.
It seems to me that a better task force would be to study getting bids to privatize city services and then, after work, the city employees could come to task force meetings to try to protect their jobs. Or, even better, privatize the university. Then, maybe students could get some conservative and liberty-minded administrations and instruction.
