Dear editor,

I wonder if people realize how important Meals on Wheels is to our community. I’ve been driving for three or four years (they go by quickly) for the Via Christi group and I’ve become quite fond of my clients.

Then, I had two surgeries this year and they provided my meals for me. It was a godsend. once the new director, Jane, brought my meal to me personally. I’ve seen three directors come and go. I have a new client who knows a great deal about nursing and she tells me how my new rotator cuff is healing when I visit. If you need something like trash to the curb, they’ll help. And if you need medical assistance, they know the nearest relative or neighbor who can help. And the cute anecdotes never end, but I can’t publish them without permission.

Most of all, the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Each driver receives $3 for delivering 6-8 meals. It takes me less than an hour. I provide my car, they provide two containers of hot and cold food. There are six routes, Monday to Friday, that feed about 35-50 people every weekday. Thank you for reaching out to our community every day.
