I enjoyed the cartoon you ran making fun of the shenanigans likely to be taking place within the election of the new pope. I’d like to think the new pope would have gotten a laugh out of the cartoon, too, since he is reported to be the kind of leader who does not put up with bureaucratic nonsense. I was also glad to see the article you ran last Sunday about Bishop Robert Quinn’s whine because of his perception of the kind of treatment he has been getting from The National Catholic Reporter. It’s sure clear that human bureaucracies, even church bureaucracies, are prone to hide their mischief, deceit, and illegal activities unless outside media open the doors and windows to expose those activities to fresh air. The actions of outside media have forced the institutional bureaucracy of the Catholic Church to begin to address and hopefully work to correct it’s own sinfulness. My hope is that eventually Catholics will be inflicted with less bureaucracy and institutional malfeasance. Cleaning up the actions of the human institution will open up the way for the Catholic Church to once again get about the work of bringing the Good News to a world that greatly needs it.
