Each year the United Way of Southwest Missouri & Southeast Kansas, and other United Ways across our state and country, conduct fundraising campaigns.

The proceeds support local nonprofit organizations that provide programs and services to individuals and families faced with a crisis in Jasper, Newton, Cherokee, and Crawford counties.

For example, during the past year more than 121,000 individuals right here at home received assistance from one of 35 partner agencies supported by United Way of SW MO & SE KS.

The United Way is an example of communities at their best - local people and companies helping their fellow citizens in a time of need. Your dollars working in your community.

While we may not realize it, those contributions are often helping people we know: neighbors, fellow employees, members of our church, or their families and friends.

As a volunteer, one of the most rewarding things is coming in contact with other individuals who understand being part of a community and getting involved.

We all want our time and money put to use in the best way possible.

That’s where the United Way can help. Giving through the United Way provides us an opportunity to support multiple programs, individuals and issues impacting the community all at the same time.

Their ability to work with volunteers, agencies and other community partners to try and bring about systemic changes is unique. Programs supported through the United Way help people in crisis get back on their feet, prevent future problems and build a stronger community for all of us.

Each dollar you contribute is important.

In the hands of a social service director, that dollar can turn into more than $20 worth of local services.

As we near the end of our 2012-2013 campaign, I would first like to thank those who have already contributed. Whether through your place of employment, a fundraising event, in response to a letter or some other means, it is all important and appreciated.

It has been a good campaign, but the needs are great and we need a strong finish in order to meet our goal. We know that there are caring people in our community who have not yet been presented with an opportunity to make their contribution.

So join our community’s team and LIVE UNITED by pledging your contribution on the card below and mailing it in to our local United Way office at 117 West 4th Street, Suite A Pittsburg, Kansas 66762!

The result will be a better community that continues to be a great place to live and work ... and a place you are proud to call home.

More information on how to support the community and agencies funded through United Way can be found at unitedwayswmosek.org or by calling 620-231-8140.
