Thumbs down... to news that the city of Pittsburg is in need of further budget cuts. This spring, the city staff cut close to $800,000 from the budget, and interim Pittsburg City Manager John Van Gorden said around $450,000 more in cuts is needed.
Thumbs down... to Thursday’s announcement that Gov. Parkinson is imposing budget cuts that include a 2 percent reduction in aid to school districts and higher education.
Thumbs up... to Pittsburg USD 250’s decision to use American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to add teaching positions.
Thumbs down... to the first confirmed case of H1N1 influenza, commonly referred to as "swine flu," being reported in Crawford County.
Thumbs down... to the Police Response Advocacy Program losing its grant funding Tuesday. The program sent advocates out to scenes of domestic violence and sexual assault, and was funded by a $400,000 grant every two years.
Thumbs down... to Friday’s pileup on the Will Rogers Turnpike near Miami, Okla., which claimed 10 lives.
