The bangs and pops over Lincoln Park last night was music to our ears, as well as the ears of many area residents.
A little over three months ago, the city of Pittsburg’s decision to cut the fireworks show due to budget concerns caused great concern in the community. But the show went on thanks to a group of individuals and businesses decided to do something about it by raising funds.
A donation of $15,000 made earlier this week by Bell Credit Union capped an effort to raise enough money to fund this year's display. The campaign raised a total of approximately $30,000, and Iowa-based J&M Displays donated $11,000 worth of fireworks for last night’s spectacular.
We are extremely pleased to see people come together to help the community. Just like Christmastime without wreaths and lights adorning buildings, it is tough to imagine Independence Day in Pittsburg without fireworks, and we’re glad we didn’t have to find out.
We are pleased with this grassroots effort to hang onto one of the things that makes Pittsburg great.
