Dear editor,
I have just bought gasoline for my lawnmower. Next is planning the tour across my yard so as to get the best mileage without wasting a pass or trip.
In the meantime we pump expensive oil into reserves in the ground. Senator Brownback doesn't run this year. He already wasted our time and money running for president. Senator Roberts does and we don't hear a public word addressing the problem from him or any others who profess to have our interests in mind. Do they ask the President for help when he is the leader of their party? The classic answer is Mr. Bush can do nothing about it. I say horsefeathers.
When leading steel companies in President Kennedy's time contemplated raising the price of steel Mr. Kennedy called them to a meeting which was made public. He reportedly said something like..." I can't stop you from hiking but if you do some bad things may occur against your product and procedures.” The steel execs changed their mind and prices remained stable. Jawboning is a last result. A leading Democrat Senator Dorgan has said we can drill in the Eastern Gulf where we know oil exists but who in the Senate backs him? Their Oil Co. backers want to drill the Alaska Wild life Reserve. These folks in congress were put there by some that owning a gas guzzler or paying through the nose for fuel is of no consequence. CSPAN says the pumping of expensive oil into the reserves has halted. Let them pay since it's their choice of wheels but we poor slobs lower on the food chain need relief. I think we poor folks outnumber the champagne set but we must also get out and vote most office holders into retirement. That too will cost us plenty but it's better than leaving them in to further feather their nests and do nothing to help us. Another big turnover would send a message. And on my earlier published problem I can nearly guarantee you military vets you will get only lip service and ineffective help on only the lowest level.
