PITTSBURG —

An investigation by The Morning Sun regarding school zones uncovered a disturbing fact.
In findings published in Friday’s newspaper, 55 cars on Thursday morning were clocked going more than five miles-per-hour over the speed limit through the Pittsburg Community Middle School zone within a 20-minute span, while 58 drivers were caught speeding through a 25-minute span in the afternoon. That accounts for nearly three speeders per minute during the school’s busiest time — immediately before and after the school day.
These numbers are unacceptable. Children often lack the judgment to watch where they’re going and what they’re doing. But adults have no excuse for not using caution on the road — especially in a school zone.
We must be mindful of what’s we’re doing. It is not worth putting our young people in harm’s way to get to our respective destinations a few seconds earlier.
